Privacy Policy
Effective: August 21, 2026 · Applies to BetterGifBar for macOS and BetterGifBar for iPhone (iMessage)
BetterGifBar is a GIF search utility. It is designed to collect as little
data as possible.
What BetterGifBar does with data
- Search queries are sent to KLIPY (klipy.com), the GIF search
provider, to return results. Queries are not stored by BetterGifBar and are not
linked to your identity by BetterGifBar. KLIPY's handling of API traffic is
governed by KLIPY's privacy policy.
- Recents and favorites are stored only on your device, in the
app's local container. They never leave your device.
- Captioned GIFs are rendered entirely on your device. Your
caption text is never transmitted anywhere.
- The app you paste into (macOS) is detected only in the
moment, on-device, to choose the right clipboard format. It is not recorded or
transmitted.
- Anonymous usage statistics are sent to
TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused
analytics service, to understand which features are used — for example
"a search happened" or "a caption was exported". These are counts and
categories only: never your search terms, caption text, the GIFs you pick, or
anything identifying. The identifier used is a random ID created on your device
and hashed before it is sent; it is not linked to you. You can turn this off
any time in Settings ("Share anonymous usage stats"), and the app behaves
identically with it off.
What BetterGifBar does not do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no tracking across apps or sites, no ads
- No reading of your screen, keystrokes, clipboard history, or messages
- The optional Accessibility permission (macOS) is used solely to simulate
⌘V to paste the GIF you chose. Nothing is observed or captured with it.
